Dog Training Tips
In order for a puppy to become a well behaved dog and the
only way to teach your puppy is by special training. Getting past the puppy
stage, can be the most difficult part of owning a dog. To help you with your
training process, I have some great tips.
1. Good Habits
If you can develop some good habits from the very
beginning, you will have a more obedient dog later on. Don’t allow your puppy
to get away with things just because he is so cute, it won’t be so cute when
your dog is grown and still chewing up your shoes.
2. Take Time to Socialize Your Puppy
This is one of the most important of the dog training
tips. Your puppy needs to learn how to get along with other puppies and dogs.
If they don’t learn while they are young, they will have a hard time later on
getting along. They may bark at the other dogs as well as bite them. Take
your puppy to the park; introduce him to other dogs while he’s young.
3. Develop A Bond of Trust
You cannot expect your dog to obey you if he doesn’t trust
you. If your dog doesn’t trust you, he becomes rebellious, and a rebellious
dog is dangerous to be around. Develop trust between you and y our puppy early
on. Pet your dog, play with him, and let him know that you are safe.
4. Positive Reinforcement with Treats
Puppies and older dogs love treats and will do whatever it
takes to get them. Of all dog training tips, this one will bring you the
fastest results. This will reward them immediately and they will want to keep
winning this form of praise and reward. They will be able to connect their
actions with yummy treats, therefore, give you a lot more positive action
5. Don’t take Your Puppy Everywhere You Go
I know you see the stars on TV always holding their puppy,
but this is not good for your dog or for you. First, it puts them at a greater
risk for harm, and they will feel nervous and insecure.
6. Designated Chew Toys
Determine early on what your puppy is allowed to chew on.
If he thinks he can chew on your slippers as a puppy, then he will continue to
do it into adulthood. There may be things that your puppy chews on that can be
dangerous to him. Learn the dog training tips that train him to not chew on
everything he sees.
7. You Be Your Dog’s Trainer
You can also hire a trainer, yes, they are fast, saving
you a lot of work, but they are also very expensive and take away a wonderful
opportunity for you to get to know your dog. By training your dog yourself,
you will develop a great form of communication, and learn more about your dog’s
personality.
Now you are equipped with some great dog training tips.
You can do this! You and your new puppy are going to have some fun.
Dog Training Tip #1
Be Consistent. Use the same commands over and over as you are training, correcting, and praising your dog. Consistency will help your dog to understand and obey rather than be confused and disobedient. All family members should use the same commands when training your dog. Consistency breeds familiarity and desired behavior. |
Dog Training Tip #2
Praise Good Behavior. Make sure to praise your dog quickly and often when she has completed a command or responded in a positive manner. As you praise, look directly in your dog's eyes so that she will associate good behavior with the positive reinforcement she is receiving (voice and/or touch). |
Dog Training Tip #3
Keep Training Sessions Short. Approximately 15 minutes per session is optimal for learning a simple command and maintaining your dog's concentration. Make sure to end your training sessions on a positive note. One idea is to play with your dog immediately following a session. This will help your dog to associate time spent with you as fun and to look forward to another training session. |
