Dog Crate Training
Just like any of us, a dog needs their own room, dog
crate training will provide a place to feel secure and to relax. These can be
made of wire, plastic or metal, but the material is not what is important,
rather than the room that they need to move around. They need to be able to
get in and out of their crate without having to duck their head.
Every dog needs a room of their own to relax and feel
secure in. Most often this is a dog crate or kennel. Usually made of metal, wire
or plastic, it is important to have one that fits your dog. If they have a
space too large, they will sleep in one end, and mess in the other.
The dog crate will become your dog's little safe place.
This will help to satisfy his 'den instinct' which he has inherited from his
forefathers. When he becomes use to his crate, he will feel secure.
Dog crate training will make a place for your dog to
rest, and you are going to make it a place very cozy and comfy for him. Having
this close space, your dog will not relieve himself in the crate, but will wait
until he is let out to go potty.
Another great advantage to dog crate training, is that
you can leave your dog alone and not worry about him destroying the house or
going potty where he shouldn't. You will also be able to travel in the car
without the worry, and with you dog feeling safe, and less anxious. This
provides a place where your dog won't feel stressed and be able to relax. This
will enable you to travel more with your dog or be able to leave him home while
you leave overnight.
If you are a dog owner, or contemplating owning a dog, a
dog crate will be essential for the both of you. You can purchase dog crates
at the pet stores, department stores and you can find the best deals here
online. You can put any padding or flooring you choose, making it more
comfortable for your dog. Dog crate training, is something that actually gives
your dog the security that he needs and the peace you need.
Dog Training Tip #1
Be Consistent. Use the same commands over and over as you are training, correcting, and praising your dog. Consistency will help your dog to understand and obey rather than be confused and disobedient. All family members should use the same commands when training your dog. Consistency breeds familiarity and desired behavior. |
Dog Training Tip #2
Praise Good Behavior. Make sure to praise your dog quickly and often when she has completed a command or responded in a positive manner. As you praise, look directly in your dog's eyes so that she will associate good behavior with the positive reinforcement she is receiving (voice and/or touch). |
Dog Training Tip #3
Keep Training Sessions Short. Approximately 15 minutes per session is optimal for learning a simple command and maintaining your dog's concentration. Make sure to end your training sessions on a positive note. One idea is to play with your dog immediately following a session. This will help your dog to associate time spent with you as fun and to look forward to another training session. |
