Dog Training Equipment

You ready to go get your new dog?  You have him picked out; you have a bed, all nice and snuggly for him to sleep in, you the dog food, and a lot of love!  I think you are almost ready, but there are just a few more things that you will need.  These are the dog training equipment that will ensure your new puppy a great new beginning in his new home, and you a happy new dog owner.

The first list of things you need will be dog training equipment for housebreaking purposes.

1.  A dog crate that is big enough for your dog to walk into without ducking his head, plus giving him enough room to move around.

2. Water dish, you may prefer the kind you can mount on the wall, or one that refills itself.

3. Bedding that is washable

4. Chew toys, every dog needs something to play with and chew on.

5. Safe cleaning products for your carpet and wood

6. Baby gate to keep your new dog in or out of particular areas

1. Training lead, one that is comfortable for you and strong enough to handle your dog’s size.

2. Collar that is of good quality and comfortable; you can use a “pinch collar”, if you will make sure to use it properly.  These are very effective in training your dog.  If you use this, you will want a long lead to train with, as well as plenty of room.  It is important to note that a pinch collar is to be used only for training purposes, never to be left on your dog otherwise.  They can be dangerous and cause choking.

3. Treats! Every dog loves treats, and when you are training, this will be your best friend.  You will find that the treats will bring about the most success in your training.  There are dog bones, dog jerky, and other treats, but make sure they are healthy.

4. Quiet classroom; you will need a quiet place where you can train your dog.  You need to have a place without distractions, and know that you will not be bothered by other people.  The more space the better, with the least amount of smells, noises and things to bump into.

This is not a complete list by any means, but this will at least cover the basic dog training equipment needs.  You will have everything you need to turn your new dog into a wonderful citizen in the human and canine world.  You will now have an official member of the family who is not only a lot of fun to have around, but who knows how to behave at the same time.

Dog Training Tip #1

Be Consistent. Use the same commands over and over as you are training, correcting, and praising your dog. Consistency will help your dog to understand and obey rather than be confused and disobedient. All family members should use the same commands when training your dog. Consistency breeds familiarity and desired behavior.

Dog Training Tip #2

Praise Good Behavior. Make sure to praise your dog quickly and often when she has completed a command or responded in a positive manner. As you praise, look directly in your dog's eyes so that she will associate good behavior with the positive reinforcement she is receiving (voice and/or touch).

Dog Training Tip #3

Keep Training Sessions Short. Approximately 15 minutes per session is optimal for learning a simple command and maintaining your dog's concentration. Make sure to end your training sessions on a positive note. One idea is to play with your dog immediately following a session. This will help your dog to associate time spent with you as fun and to look forward to another training session.
